Analysis
Summary: This article explains how volunteers are trying to revive Chinese culture by forming a parade for Chinese new year. The parade covers over one-thousand years of Chinese history and culture. The volunteer's plan is to try the make the parade as big as the famous Macy parade. Chinese emigrants watch over the preparation of the parade. New businesses that enter the Chinatown area with no correlation to the culture is damaging the preservation of the Chinese culture in Washington. Many of the emigrants watching over the parade say it will bring back the diluted culture in the area.
Thoughts/Emotions/observations: The cultural activity that is happening in this article brings relief to my emotions because it shows that people care about ancient things. Also it brings joy to my heart because of the commitment of these people to do this. The observations I made is that the people who are making this parade happen are very organized. This can be seen because in the article they only bring culturally enveloped Chinese emigrants that know the culture like the back of their hand. Another observation is that there are not many Chinese people in Chinatown. The lack of Chinese people in Chinatown would lead to the extinction of that culture in the area. Soon after the extinction of the culture in that area more popular culture businesses would invade Chinatown and just make it like another mainstream shopping plaza. My thoughts about the event are; I believe it is a very good idea and America needs more diversity in it's society.
Cultural ties: This article goes with the culture of China very well. First off the main idea of the article is to inform the reader of a parade for Chinese new year. I don't see what can get closer to to the original culture than a parade. Secondly the article is promoting the survival of Chinese culture in America. This is most likely so it can spread to other people that are not familiar with the Chinese culture. This event is important to the culture because it is celebrating a new year for the Chinese. It is important as New years for Americans, and several other countries.
