Summary
This article was about how an abundance of vegetables is much different to the era of the fiftys and sixties during winter season. When winter nears many of the salesman make improvised grills and other workmen have little tricks they do to keep warm. Elderly chinese speak of the time when rations of vegetables sustained millions. Nowadays in Beijing there are many vegetables to choose from. During early November Chinese farmers on the outskirt of the country send many vegetables for the Government to hoard until spring. This is similar to how squirrels stockpille on food for the winter. The modern farming practices are destroying small buisnesses though.
Thoughts/emotions/observations
In the article I observed that the governments plan is almost fool proof. The stock piling of vegetables is important during winter season since nothing will grow. I also observed that the stock piling of vegetables by government farmers is making local farmer's buisness decline rapidly. The decline in local buisness can lead them to be wiped out all together. Although the local farmers all share little secrets and tips thay have to preserve the vegetables so they can sell them for a longer period of time. This can lead to the survival of their small buisnesses. My thoughts on this article is that the government is playing a large role to keep the nation citizens alive during the winter. The government seems to be doing a very good job due to the decline of starvation related deaths.
Political ties
This article ties in with the politics of China very well. This event that happens during winter is a very good centripetal force. Since the government goes out of the way to feed it's citizens it wants the people of
China to stay and prosper. This can then lead to an even more deeper aspect of politics, such as votes for a candidate. This event plays an extermely important role in politics in China.
